Age hardening of precipitation hardening grades such as 17-4PH is available in a number of furnaces of varied size, to grades such as H900, H1150 and so on. All furnaces used for age hardening are surveyed and certified to required uniformity ranges (AMS 2759D). Typically, age hardening can be performed on finish machined parts, as dimensional change is minimal. Material should be in the solution annealed condition prior to age hardening, however parts can be re-processed to a higher age temper (such as from H900 to H1150).

Annealing
Annealing is a heat treatment used to soften material to its lowest hardness, and is often used to improve machinability or formability. It is a time consuming process that can often be replaced with shorter cycle tempers or sub-critical annealing for similar results. Please consult with one of our experts.
